William Butchart BSc(Econ), ACA: Managing Director


Having served chartered accountancy articles with Ernst & Young, William worked in international publishing until 1985 when he moved to become Financial Director of the newly formed Retirement Care Group. This was his introduction to managing property on behalf of retired home owners.
At Retirement Care he was responsible for successfully developing the financial and computer systems to meet the needs of the company’s rapidly expanding management operations. He brought that experience to Kingsdale and the company has always sought to achieve continuing improvements to its accounting and administrative systems.
Although still responsible for financial matters, William now has a wider role in guiding the company through its next phase of expansion.

Ann Mainwaring BA, FCIH: non executive Chairman


Ann has been involved in housing management since 1971, and has specialised in retirement housing for the last twenty years. She has worked in both the public and private sector, including three years as Chair of the largest housing association in Wales.
Ann spent twelve years as Estates Director of Retirement Care Group, helping to build it into one of the largest and most successful companies specialising in the management of private retirement housing. Ann is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and was Secretary to the Association of Retirement Housing Managers between 1995 and 1997.
In March 2008 Ann retired from day to day management, although she continues to be involved with Kingsdale in a non-executive capacity.



In addition to the founding directors, Kingsdale also has an experienced and responsive management team to deal with day-to-day operations:

Regional Directors and Head Office:-

Helen Morrell - Regional Director (Midlands and North West).
Regionally based to be nearer the developments she is responsible for, Helen manages a portfolio of both retirement and non-retirement developments. Helen worked with Kingsdale for 10 years in her capacity as Services Manager for Bovis Homes Limited – ‘Retirement Living’ and so we were delighted to be able to appoint her to the Kingsdale team. Helen brings with her an invaluable continuity of experience and knowledge of many of the developments we currently manage.

Larry Sears - Regional Director (South East).
Also regionally based, Larry manages a portfolio of retirement developments in the South East and East Anglia. In a lengthy career in housing, Larry has previously held senior management posts with Abbeyfield and Anchor Housing Trust and has wide ranging experience of all aspects of property management – particularly on behalf of retired home owners.

Head Office – The administrative centre of the company is based in Portishead, near Bristol. Our support staff deal with all ‘accounts related’ matters as well as Personnel, Payroll, insurance claims and re-sales. We also have an office-based as well as a regionally based Buildings Surveyor.
