On Thursday 30th June, 12 owners from Eastbank Court went on an outing to the Severn Valley Railway. They all enjoyed the train journey, and it was lovely for owners to be able to get out and about together! A thank you to the board and social committee for organising the trip and to Mr and Mrs Herington for being on hand to assist with any questions!

On Thursday 2nd June 2022 the owners gathered for an afternoon tea and garden party to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Duty Manager Nicki worked hard to put on a lovely spread of sandwiches, cakes, scones, Pimm's and prosecco. The garden and tables were decorated in red, white and blue and music was playing throughout. Garden Games were also dotted around for owners with a competitive streak to play. The afternoon was enjoyed by all and the main event was the planting of the Jubilee Rose, something which will commemorate the event for years to come. A big thank you to the staff who helped with the event and also to the board for helping set up the day and for running ‘guess the weight of the cake’ and ‘guess the number of marbles in the jar’ to raise money for the social committee. It was a lovely afternoon and the weather was kind to us as well!
On Monday 23rd May 2022 we were visited by the Hearing Dog’s Charity during afternoon tea. The stars of the visit were Grace and Zyla, two fully trained working hearing dogs. Their owner is registered as deaf and came along to not only give a talk on all the good work the charity does but also to demonstrate how Grace and Zyla help her daily. The owners at Eastbank Court thoroughly enjoyed the talk and donated over £180 to the charity. A big thank you to the Eastbank Court Social Committee for arranging this visit.
On Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th December, we welcomed residents and their family and friends to enjoy a Christmas party meal in the restaurant. All guests enjoyed a three-course meal which was brilliantly prepared by our cooks Olga and Stacey, with the help of our kitchen staff Claire and Joy, and some extra help from Duty Manager Nicki. A big thank you to all the staff who also gave up their time to come in and help ensure the meals were a great success.
There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the weekend with all the Christmas decorations up and the tables set beautifully by General Assistant Sally. It was wonderful to see so many faces and to watch our residents enjoying themselves, especially after a tough couple of years for all. Finally, our Chairman Mr Graham organised and ran a very successful raffle on the Sunday afternoon, with lots of prizes to be won. This was done in aid of Alzheimer’s UK and St Richard’s Hospice. £600 was raised and split evenly between the two charities to help them continue the brilliant work they do. On Wednesday 17th November Mr & Mrs Pringle celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. They invited residents to join them for afternoon tea and cake in the lounge at Eastbank Court. There was a great turn out with lots of well wishes and congratulations. It was lovely to be part of such a mile-stone occasion. A huge Congratulations to the happy couple!
On Friday 24th September the residents at Eastbank Court came together to take part in Macmillan’s biggest coffee morning. Friends and family from outside the court also came along and there was a lovely atmosphere throughout.
Mr Graham ran a tombola with residents donating prizes, there was a great selection on offer and everyone that had a go was a winner! Olga and Stacey (our amazing cooks) produced some fantastic cakes which the residents enjoyed on the day as well as purchasing more to take home with them. We played ‘guess the number of sprinkles on colin’ which was won by Mrs Price. She donated her winnings straight back to Macmillan. Mr Graham also won a quiz, and his prize was a special Macmillan Colin the Caterpillar which he very kindly gave to the staff to enjoy. All the efforts made by the staff, residents and their family and friends resulted in us raising £727.56 for Macmillan Cancer Support. A great effort which will help Macmillan to continue the great work they do! After being in some form of lockdown for the last 18 months it was great to finally get the residents together for their annual summer BBQ which took place on Wednesday 18th September. The Evening was a great success with everyone enjoying some delicious food and glasses of sangria. The sun shone which was a bonus as earlier in the day we weren’t sure that the weather would be on our side! A big thank you to the staff that gave up their evening off to help, to Nicki who produced all the food, to the residents for making the evening such a great success and to the social committee for their kind donation towards costs.
Having been the General Manager of Eastbank Court for almost 6 months it was great to be able to deliver a wonderful evening for our residents and see everyone enjoying themselves, introducing new residents and seeing new friendships being formed. It has been a testing time for all over the last 18 months and it is fantastic to finally be able to get back to some form of normality. We are hoping that this is a sign of things to come! Eastbank Court are looking forward to the next few months when the start of easing lockdown restrictions is due to take place, so that Owners can get back to some sort of normality.
Nicki Hardy is due to take early retirement, so will be departing as Court Manager on 31st March, we at Head Office are very grateful for all of her hard work over the 10 years she's been with us. Nicki is looking forward to enjoying exotic holidays and spending quality time with her husband and family. Looking forward, we would like to welcome Emma Humphreys as the new Court Manager, who will be starting with us on 15th March, working alongside Nicki until she departs. Even in these difficult times we have managed to keep in good spirit, celebrating VE day with strawberries and cream and a nice glass of Pimm’s.
The residents had their Macmillan coffee morning delivered to their door; this did not stop us from raising £440.00 for such a good cause. Our kind post lady made the residents face masks, asking for donations to St Richards. So far we have raised £105. The staff here at Eastbank Court would like to say a big thank you to St Stephens Church, they have donated Easter eggs for all the staff who are doing a good job keeping the residents safe and fed. Good job our Duty Manager Angie Tame is not here, she would have the lot, she does have a sweet tooth.
We would like to give a big thank you to Malvern Panalytical for their kind donation of face shields which were so gratefully received.
Also, Rev Andy Todd of St. Stephens church, has given the staff at Eastbank Court a big smile by bringing us all an Easter Egg, many thanks. Eastbank's Christmas Party Weekend, which was held on 14th and 15th December for the Owners and their families, proved to be another very popular event and was a great success thoroughly enjoyed by all. Mr Graham organised another impressive raffle raising an amazing £650; the proceeds will be split between St Richard’s Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Society. Laura was also at the Court selling many Christmas goodies, which owners enjoyed looking at and purchasing.
On 4th November, Eastbank Court ran a ‘Movember’ Event which was held to support National Men’s Awareness Month.
Instead of the usual charge for afternoon tea and cake, Owners were invited to make a donation and the proceeds were given towards the Charity for Prostate Cancer. They were also invited to wear a ‘stick on’ moustache, which you will see by the photo’s some did! Staff were also allowed to come into work in clothes of their choice and wear a ‘stick on’ moustache in return for donating at least £1 towards this Charity. A grand total of £117.65p was raised towards this worthy cause. On the evening of 31st October, Eastbank Court held another very successful Fine Dining Evening. This was an extremely popular event which was enjoyed by all that attended.
Again, it was a lovely social occasion and a good opportunity to have a delicious selection of ‘Fine Dining’ food, all of which was expertly cooked by Nicki Hardy, Court Manager, Nicki McGonigle, Duty Manager and Olga Cramm, Cook. As you can see from the photographs, the food looked and tasted delicious! Eastbank Court had a very successful MacMillan coffee morning on the 27th September, raising an amazing £722. Money was raised from the lovely cakes made from the kitchen staff and the raffle, which was organised from one of the residents. Well done to all the residents, friends, family and staff who participated.
