The Owners were absolutely delighted when trays including a selection of sandwiches, Helen's homemade scones, strawberries and cream, arrived at their doors and they thoroughly enjoyed their treat. Thank you to Helen for making it all happen, for the delicious sandwiches and freshly baked scones that are simply the best, and to Saron for helping with the service. | |

Pupils from Mill Hill School recently visited Farthing Court as a part of Mill Hill School's Community Enrichment Programme.
Mill Hill School is based in Mill Hill Village. As well as the regular day pupils they also have boarders from around the world. As part of their ‘enrichment programme’, pupils will be engaging with the local community. They have spent one afternoon with our owners just chatting about anything they like, listening to their stories, or if an owner has a problem with, for instance, how to use a mobile phone, they help to solve the problem. Our owners had a Chanukah Tea last week to celebrate the ‘Festival of Lights’. This has always been a very well attended and popular event at Farthing Court.
Our owners had a very enjoyable morning as Farthing Court welcomed the choir from Frith Manor School singing Christmas Carols. The school collected donations from our owners for the Homeless in Barnet. Waitrose also kindly donated mince pies for the occasion. A wonderful morning for all.

Mihaela Tatarova has started her new position as Manager replacing Pauline Wilson. Mihaela was previously employed as a Duty Manager. She is looking forward to her new role.
Owners and staff bid a fond farewell to Pauline Wilson, Court Manager, after eleven years of service. She has recently managed a total refurbishment of all the communal areas which look great. Everyone involved with Farthing Court wishes Pauline and her family well in their new life.
We are extremely proud to be part of a recording session this Wednesday morning. Our owners had a chance to be pop stars by sharing their voices for inclusion in a group’s first album. Daniel, Mark, Pete, Billy and Ralph asked us to wait until January for details as the album and group will have a full press launch.
As Christmas is knocking on the door we are getting busy. We will be offering our owners something special for all the forthcoming holidays. It is difficult to find any free space in our social calendar. December is teeming with events. Mr Paul Cavendish will be bringing the magic of Christmas when he returns at the beginning of festivities, followed by a special Christmas lunch for our Book Club, Play reading Club and Gentleman’s Club members, traditional visit to St. Albans market, spiced with Frith Manor School Choir performing Christmas Carols, finishing with a whole week of delicious menus for Christmas. Not forgetting our Chanukah Tea and New Years Eve bites. We are delighted to have Mr Mark Warman a Professor of the Royal Academy of Music who has just finished working on Disney’s Mary Poppins with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt to join us by the piano for this year’s Christmas sing a long.
Wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Looking forward to the annual MacMillan Coffee Morning in September. This year we will be adding a taste of magic to this important charity event by welcoming Mr Paul Cavendish, an award winning magician. Until then owners and their guests at Farthing Court are enjoying tea and homemade biscuits in our beautiful garden during the last days of summer.
After a busy winter period full of birthday celebrations, entertainments, quizzes and various activities we are looking forward to enjoying the nice weather outside.
Our new garden tables and chairs have just arrived to provide the perfect setting for an afternoon tea or just a place to relax in our beautiful garden. We were proud to welcome Hendon Horticultural Society Committee recently for a lunch. New ideas are already in progress, starting with a delicious May Bank Holiday Buffet Lunch followed by a Street Party in celebration of the Queen’s Birthday and traditional Wimbledon Tea. We all enjoyed the beautiful weather in our garden which is a blaze with autumnal colours. The gardening quiz was a huge success with a delightful talk from our gardener. Our Owners also enjoyed dancing in the aisle at the last entertainment show.
The last two Birthday celebrations organised in our lounge were a good introduction to the next event, a celebration of our 10th Year Anniversary and the completion of the redecorations. This summer our owners have enjoyed trips out to visit historical houses and Proms at St Jude's. The monthly talks and entertainments, as well as quizzes and teas, are pulling in the crowds. If they're not coming for games, they're coming for the excellent sandwiches and homemade cakes that we offer.
Our garden has never looked better, carefully monitored and documented by our garden group. We are very proud to have one of our owners who was awarded with the medal of honour by the French government in recognition of his acknowledged military engagement and steadfast involvement in the liberation of France in the Second World War. The Chevalier de la Legion d' honneur is the highest honour France can bestow. The remarkable event was covered by the press and the BBC. 2015 at Farthing Court started on a musical high with the first meeting of the Court Choir. February was reserved for entertainment with William Smith and a music evening. The refurbishment of our communal rooms is now complete. With new wall finishes, carpets, curtains and furniture the areas look fabulous. We held a very successful and enjoyable Mothering Sunday lunch in our new, bright dining room. Our first owner to reach her 100th Birthday celebrated with a tea party.
Christmas cheer arrived when our successful Book Circle hosted their Christmas Lunch. Our traditionally themed Christmas tree enhanced our newly decorated and refurbished lounge.
Owners enjoyed a talk on the history of posh shopping in Mayfair which was followed by the film High Society. Chanukah tea was one of the most delightful events of December. Our Christmas day lunch and Boxing day buffet proved to be a great success. The end of 2014 was reserved for White Christmas. 2015 has begun with the formation of a Court Choir. Exercise classes have resumed together with a busy social calendar. |
