Toya Richardson, Housekeeping Assistant at Gressland Court, has had a number of fiction books published. These include romance and a young adult fantasy series.
Gressland Court held its annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday 18th November 2017. Lots of visitors attended along with owners and staff both past and present and a great afternoon was had by all. Items for sale included homemade cakes and a craft stall with some items made by owners throughout the year. Other activities included a tombola, raffle and refreshments.
Gressland Court held their annual BBQ on Saturday 15th July. Unfortunately, the flypast did not go ahead due to the Dakota’s engine catching fire, but this did not spoil our day. The theme was 1940’s with some of the owners coming as refugees with their gas mask boxes. Susie, Gloria, Giny, Susan, Karen and Lyn all dressed up together with some of our guests. Lyn and her sister Bobby were our singers for the day. The Stowmarket Boys Brigade Marching Band came and played. We had 122 people in the garden having a lovely time with plenty of Pimm’s and BBQ to follow.
A lovely afternoon tea was held at Gressland Court with finger sandwiches and homemade pastries and scones with jam and clotted cream.
We are planning our Summer BBQ which will take place on July 15th, and our theme this year in the 1940’s, we are also having a flypast from the Battle of Britain Dakota (time to be confirmed). The Manager and Duty Managers and Glyn from Bloomsbury will be dressing up as Land Army Girls, and one of the Duty Managers will be singing. Gressland Court celebrated Burns night on Saturday 28th January 2017, it was attended by 40 owners and guests! The evening began at 6pm with sherry and whiskey followed by Ham, Pea and Lentil Soup. Haggis, Mash and Carrot & Swede served with Whiskey Gravy, Cranachan, Coffee & Mints. All had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Mr Wade had a day at RAF Coningsby as he was an engineer with 617 Squadron in the war (Dambusters) (not many left now) this was arranged through the Battle of Britain Flight, a great day was had. Mr Wade even went into a Lancaster, this brought back some memories. The engineer in charge now even asked Mr Wade how things were back then and he told them, some things were wrong which will now be put right. Lunch was provided for Mr & Mrs Wade in the Lancaster Lounge, this is a day he will remember.
The Staff at Gressland Court are holding a street party for the owners to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday with traditional fayre.
The annual BBQ and Sports day will be held with a twist this year - 'the wet sponge soak' where owners will be able to soak their Manager and Duty Managers! This is followed by a Country and Western Singer. We have had a few evening meals, a Chinese and Indian night, and these were a great success. We are planning a few more evening meals i.e. Italian and a Spanish Tapas night. Our duck race afternoon is usually a great success and lots of the owners cheer on their ducks in a race to the finish! We have had a complete ground floor redecoration which is now complete and looking great.
We held a burns night in January and the haggis was addressed. We will be holding a few themed nights in the coming months. We have also welcomed 5 new owners over the past couple of months. We are having a 10th Year Anniversary tea on 2nd December which coincides with the completion of our redecoration and new LED lights.
We have a list of activities during December. These include a visit from our local Brownies, Owners' Christmas lunches, bell ringing and one of our Duty Managers will be signing for our Owners. We will be holding another cocktail evening as our last one was a great success, and Jane our Chef has some excellent ideas. We have recently welcomed a new chef who has brought some great ideas with him. A Burns Night was held at the January which everyone enjoyed. The ground floor is being completely re-decorated with new LED lights to all communal areas. Owners are looking forward to the cost savings. An Easter Egg hunt and basket competition are planned for Easter weekend. The longer summer days will give us the opportunity to hold entertainment in the garden including a BBQ.
Enjoy your retirement at Gressland Court. We celebrated the Christmas season with owners lunches and plenty of entertainment. We have variable weekly entertainment planned for 2015 including BBQ’s in the garden. We have special themed supper nights including Burns night, Chinese and Indian nights. There will be Owners celebrating their birthdays in style with a nice afternoon tea with all the owners. We are having a redecoration in the communal areas in the New Year with LED lighting being installed.
