Here at Darwin Manor in Cambourne we are delighted to have two couples who have celebrated Diamond Wedding anniversaries in the last two years. Roy and Eileen Blythe were the first to reach the milestone in November 2014 followed, on Boxing Day last year, by Geoff and Enid Garrick. Both couples have been residents of Darwin Manor for a number of years.
Following such a dismal spell of weather over the last few month, and now we are well in to the New Year, our thoughts are turning once again to making improvements in the garden. Our owners have a few very keen gardeners amongst them and are meeting regularly to come up with a plan for replanting particular areas in the garden which are enjoyed by everyone.
Soon after the Christmas festivities, Brompton enjoyed its seasonal Robbie Burns night on the 28th January. The Great Hall is the perfect setting to accommodate such an event... we had Jim the Piper do the honours with the Haggis and the Lads & Lassies thoroughly enjoyed their evening of toasts, speeches, whiskey, fine food and more whiskey!
We have a full calendar of events during February & March- Chocoholics Coffee morning, a music evening featuring a recording of The Messiah to start off the Easter celebrations. The next big event in the calendar is our Shakespeare evening on the 23rd of April. This will be a little different to what we have done before. An evening of good food & wine whilst celebrating the most famous of Shakespeare’s works. Rehearsals are in place ready for our owners to finally come out from under their bushels and shine! Now the busy festive season is over, our normal monthly activities have started again, these include fish and chip supper, fitness Friday, prayer meeting, quiz and games afternoon, scrabble to name but a few.
Many Owners have booked for our ever popular Shrove Tuesday “pancake event”, and March we will be celebrating Easter with Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday and a special Easter Sunday lunch. We have had a complete ground floor redecoration which is now complete and looking great.
We held a burns night in January and the haggis was addressed. We will be holding a few themed nights in the coming months. We have also welcomed 5 new owners over the past couple of months. |
