Christmas at Eastbank Court

Christmas officially started at Eastbank Court on the 9th December. Friends and family were invited for a Christmas lunch with over 150 people enjoying a three-course meal in the restaurant across the weekend. The food was enjoyed by all and everyone was very appreciative of all the hard work that went into the preparing and cooking of the meal.

We then enjoyed many festive activities with Pianist Pat Dorman coming in during afternoon tea on 11th December for a festive sing-along, the Worcester handbell ringers treating owners to some beautiful music on 18th December and the Northwick Primary School choir coming along to sing some songs for the owners on 19th December.

Christmas day was also a big success with another brilliant meal cooked for owners who were spending the day with us. All in all, it has been a great Christmas period!

A Christmas Special

We had the privilege of welcoming Michelle Nova and the La Nova Singers to Brompton Court, and what a performance! The owners were greeted once again with mulled wine, warm mince pies and beautiful dressed singers… Let the concert begin!

Recognised as the premier women’s choir in the Dorset area, La Nova Singers brought some of the most vibrant and exciting choral music to life in the perfect setting of the Great Hall. They performed an eclectic repertoire of classical, sacred, operatic and contemporary music. The distinctive sound comes from shared training in the ‘Bel Canto’ technique taught by musical director and soprano, Michelle Nova.

After the concert, Michelle, Pianist Simon and the singers stayed behind to chat with the owners and promised to return in the new year. An evening of pure magic… Wonderful!

Owners of Alston Court continued to celebrate the festive season with an event hosted by Paul Jerrome, a local entertainer, who not only has the most amazing voice but can throw out a few dance moves and get everyone on their feet. What an amazing evening we all had!

Our lovely gathering on the 18th of December of Pegasus Court and Pegasus Lodge’s owners with over 30 people attending was a wonderful event full of fun festivities. Thank you to Michelle and Rita for organising this event, and to Mike for providing the music. Merry Christmas from all at Pegasus!

Christmas Carol Concert

We had a very enjoyable carol concert at Gresham on the 16th of December, with over 30 people in attendance. Lots of mulled wine and mince pies were eaten! Purley Baptist Church provided the choir, keyboard and saxophone player. A special thanks to Alan for helping to organise this wonderful event.

On the 13th of December the owners had a delicious Christmas meal followed by mince pies, coffee and mints. The event was well attended by owners and guests and everyone enjoyed the food. A very generous collection was made for the staff who gratefully accepted the gift. Merry Christmas from everyone at Gresham!

Environment Friendly Christmas - Written By a Talented Montrose Owner

I am dreaming of a green Christmas,
environment friendly and clean.
No waste and no harmful ingredients,
so even my Santa is green.
I cut out the tinsel and glitter,
all made in a sweatshop I’m sure,
and as for the wreath of fake holly
that is the first thing kicked out of the door.
The fir tree is next on the hit list,
it is not ecologically sound,
it is dead and is shedding its needles
so I’ve stuck it straight back in the ground.
I won’t burn a yule log or candles,
they add to the greenhouse effect,
I won’t buy those spray-cans of snow flakes
–just think of the ozone they wrecked!
Cigars are a social disaster,
not to mention the blow to the heart,
and alcohol is much too addictive,
so Sherry is out for a start.
The Brussel sprouts will have to be cancelled,
insecticide lurks on each leaf,
creamed potatoes are too calorific
powdered gravy beyond all belief.
The pudding’s so rich I’ll reject it,
mince pies share a similar fate,
the trifle is a foolish indulgence,
indigestion served up on a plate.
Which leaves me with bags of Bran Muesli,
completely organic, of course,
or maybe a small festive walnut
from an ethically reliable source.
I will sit with a glass of cold water,
just munching a slice of dry bread.
I’ll sadly sing “Oh, Come all Ye Faithful”
then nip round to Montrose Court’s Dining Room instead!

Christmas is Coming!

It’s Friday 1st December and this chilly winter’s night began with the delightful St George’s Singers kickstarting our Christmas season of entertainment here at Brompton Court. With the tree up and candle light settings, the Great Hall was ready to receive what was to come… Court Manager, Carl, and Suzie welcomed our owners, serving traditional mulled wine and warmed mince pies… (a good start!) and as they all warmed up with the glow of glühwein in their veins, the singers began with joyful songs such as Mary Did You Know?, Angels Singing Glory and Silent Night, after a short interval, followed by more wine and pies. The singers concluded the evening with classics such as Winter Wonderland, White Christmas and of course, Jingle Bells! A beautiful evening enjoyed by many; thankyou St George’s Singers for reminding us all of the reason for the season!
