At the beginning of November, we had our own fair at Thurman Lodge, organised and run by one of the owner's Daughter, Granddaughter and husband. Tea and coffee and a slice of cake were on offer, served in a vintage china cup and saucer. Homemade cards and gifts were also on sale with many Christmassy items available. All £240 raised went to Cancer Research UK.

We have celebrated an 80th and a 90th Birthday here at Thurman Lodge this year. Our village of East Leake also welcomed the national OVO Energy Tour of Britain on 8th September and the village was adorned with sprayed yellow bicycles and hand knitted little jerseys strung up as bunting. All local children were also invited to decorate their own little jersey, and these were also put together as bunting. Some of the ladies at Thurman Lodge joined in and knitted their own share of jerseys and these were put together and hung from the balconies to help join in with the celebrations. It was a fantastic day and, as the cyclists passed directly by Thurman Lodge, many owners were able to watch from the comfort of their own home.
Thurman Lodge organised a 90th Birthday party with a buffet and a beautiful cake. This came as a complete surprise to the owner as she had no idea it had been arranged.
Owners have enjoyed a quiz followed by refreshments, a fish and chip evening and a pork pie and salad supper. A Christmas lunch has been arranged at Ruddington Grange Golf Club for owners to enjoy.
During the first half of this year, three new owners have been settling in and making new friends, having moved in just before Christmas. One of the new owners promptly had a house warming in his apartment and all were invited for a drink and a slice of cake. He also invited everyone round on another occasion to join him in singing hymns.
The bell-ringers from the local St Mary's Church came in and entertained all one evening and laid on a supper. One of the owners held a quiz with refreshments afterwards and there have been regular suppers with favourites such as fish and chips, salmon salad and pizza salad followed by dessert. Wiltshire Farm Foods were invited in to do a tasting session - they brought in several of their meals/desserts, cooked them here and handed them out for all to try. We are also looking forward to our next Pop up Shop in June where Ladies' Fashions are brought in to try on and purchase at discounted prices. Owners also enjoy a weekly coffee/tea morning and also a whist afternoon (although there is more laughter than whist playing, which all adds to the fun). This year we have celebrated an 80th and two 90th Birthdays!
We have also had a couple of fun quizzes with cake and fizz (or tea/coffee if the fizz doesn’t agree with you). The owners have enjoyed a supper each month, prepared by two owners here. These include fish and chip supper, salmon salad, chicken and chips, quiche salad, with pudding and a drink. We have been out for a couple of three course meals at the local university college to test the skills of the budding chefs there. We enjoyed the first of our Christmas meals at the end of November and will be going out again for another this month. We also have a pop-up shop visiting during this month, bringing the latest fashions suitable for all. This means that those who may struggle to get out for clothing (and those who don’t) can browse and shop in the comfort of Thurman Lodge communal lounge. Three apartments have sold later this year and are due to complete shortly. One didn’t even go on the market! All three are expected to be occupied before Christmas. Owners enjoy a weekly coffee/tea morning and also a whist afternoon. Over the past month Owners have had a good social calendar with usual coffee mornings and whist afternoons. Owners have also enjoyed a quiche supper, a quiz afternoon and a film night.
Over the past few weeks, a couple of owners have got together & organised the following:
There has also been a quiz/coffee/wine/cake afternoon organised by another owner here. Some of the owners have all gathered & enjoyed a film night in one of their apartments. We have also celebrated 4 x 90th Birthdays this year & are looking forward to another buffet later this week (the port & lemonade will make an appearance at this function). Another one of our owners has been awarded the British Empire Medal for the work she has done for difference charities. We are all so proud and pleased for her. |
