Brook Court raised a magnificent £817.39 for Macmillan Cancer. This sum included money raised at the summer BBQ and the coffee morning.
Mrs Doris Turner celebrated her 100th Birthday on Christmas Day! She was joined by her family, friends and neighbours for a tea party with Champagne on 29th December 2016. She has lived at Brook Court since it opened in 2003 and her years at the development have been most enjoyable. We wish her many happy returns.
Life has been busy at the Court over the previous few months, with the appointment of a new General Manager. A MacMillan Coffee morning was held recently which raised over £900 – a fantastic sum.
Social events have included a Strawberry Afternoon Tea to co-incide with the Wimbledon Ladies Tennis final, a Queen’s 90th Birthday Buffet Party and the restaurant hosted a ‘Best of British’ week, offering traditional dishes from Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales – the chef’s Raspberry Cranachan Trifle is now legendary!
With Christmas approaching, we have a number of events to look forward to, in addition to the regular activities at the Court including Wine Club, Scrabble Club, Bingo and Quiz nights.
Owners recently attended a fun filled evening during Halloween, culminating in a dinner that was thoroughly enjoyed by all whom attended. Staff and owners entered into the ‘spirit’ of the season, dressing up as witches, devils and ghosts – much to the amusement of each other!
Apartment resales have been going well in recent months with only three now remaining. The new owners have joined the community and settled in well.
A fantastic amount of £484 was raised during the MacMillian coffee morning. The annual Halloween Dinner was well attended and enjoyed by all. Christmas events are being planned with two pre-Christmas lunches and one Dinner, two Choirs are coming to entertain us.
Three new Owners have recently moved into Brook Court and settled in well. It has been a busy time socially with events including a Strawberry Cream Tea and talks on ‘Remembering Not to Forget’ and ‘The Funny Side of Life’. There has also been a talk by one Owner on his previous role as a High Sheriff and another has been entertaining his neighbours with sing-alongs whilst playing the organ.
The Board are delighted that the recently installed LED lighting is showing a saving on electricity costs for the same period last year.
The Christmas period is always fun at Brook Court. We kicked off with the Christmas tree going up on 1st December and celebrate the lights being switched on with a glass of sherry and mince pie.
A Pre Christmas Dinner was enjoyed by all on Tuesday 9th and the following Friday we had 34 children from Meadows School Choir to sing Christmas Carols and Songs to us which was delightful.
The Christmas Day lunch was well attended and enjoyed by all.
The owners gathered in the lounge to celebrate the New Year with music, games and a quiz. A Buffet was held New Years Day.
The Social Committee have been busy arranging a varied calendar of events for 2015 including the pantomime, guest speakers and entertainers.
This year’s project is to replace the corridor lights with LED fittings which will reduce the Court’s electricity costs.
