Montrose Court’s social group have become a proud sponsor to Hoylake and Meols in Bloom – A local organization that plants and looks after flower beds, tubs and grasses in the local area. Sponsorship money has been raised by Montrose owners attending and contributing to social events such as film nights, day trips and theme nights. Hoylake and Meols in Bloom work incredibly hard all year round to keep the village looking bright and colourful. Montrose are delighted to be able to show support to the organization and look forward to seeing the beautiful flowers as summer approaches.
The Owners at Brackenbury enjoyed a recent Bingo afternoon in the Lounge and raised £133.50 which has been donated to Hi Com towards the Minibus fund.
On Wednesday 15th May the residents and friends had a wonderful coffee morning at Grange Court, fund raising for a local charity ‘Haven’ who support ladies with Breast cancer. The centre runs programmes of support, including counselling and supportive therapies, such as healthy eating, and exercise.
We raised £330! Stalls included new jewellery, cards, donated jewellery and scarves, and of course cakes! Oh what better way is there to see in the Spring at Brompton Court! Owners, friends and family enjoyed an afternoon of homemade scones, jam, clotted cream with lashings of tea in the company of the Voice Community Choir.
Rosemary and the choir revisited the Court on Saturday 11th May with a selection of choral tunes based on the subject of ‘Dreams’… dreams of romance, freedom, new adventures…just dream away… What a wonderful atmosphere with songs that brought joy and songs that brought a little tear to the eye… Thank you to Rosemary and the choir, and Tim the pianist, for such a lovely afternoon. See you again at Christmas! It was a busy afternoon, so thank you to Kelly & Sarah who worked tirelessly alongside Duty Managers Raf & Suzie, and to chef John for all that baking! Gressland Court held a French inspired evening with a delicious menu cooked by our chef Jane. The evening was enjoyed by owners and their family and friends.
Last year we sent Christmas parcels out to children in need all over the world, and it was lovely to see a video made by some volunteers who took the parcels out; the children’s faces when they opened them was sheer delight. We will be doing this again this year. We are currently busy planning our summer BBQ in June which is a Country & Western theme complete with hog roast. On the evening of 9th May, Eastbank Court held a very successful Fine Dining Evening. This event went really well and was much enjoyed by all in attendance. It was a nice social occasion and a good opportunity to have a lovely selection of ‘Fine Dining’ food, all of which was expertly cooked by Nicki Hardy, Court Manager and Nicki McGonigle, Duty Manager. As you can see from the photographs, the food looked and tasted delicious! We also held a Chinese takeaway night in April, which was enjoyed by all.
At Eastbank Court the residents enjoy many other activities including coffee mornings, afternoon tea and 'Knit and Natter'. They also get to have a sing-along with Pat Dorman, who comes in to play the piano once a month. The Social Committee are currently very busy arranging trips for all to enjoy; The Hop Market in May, traveling on the Severn Valley Railway in June and a seaside visit to Burnham-on-Sea in August. Let's hope the sun will be shining! It has been rather a long time since our last newsletter and there has been lots going on at Gresham Court since the New Year began. The court has undergone a transformation as decorating has begun in earnest, giving the halls a fresh and vibrant feel. Our owners have teamed up with management to devise a brilliant new colour scheme which really shows the personality of the Court.
We welcomed local residents to our very first Open Day, which gave us a chance to show what life could be like for them in the future and show our lovely grounds and apartments. March saw us celebrate the 99th birthday of one of our most beloved residents, Mr Frank Lumb, who enjoyed his birthday tea and cakes surrounded by friends. Easter is always a special occasion at Gresham Court and this year saw us have many special events, including hot cross buns in the lounge on Good Friday, a traditional Easter Sunday meal of roast lamb and a special meal on Easter Monday attended by friends and family of our residents. Our usual film night continues to take place every four weeks with owners enjoying a range of different films such as the classic ‘An Affair to Remember’ starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, and is always enjoyed by those attending. We had a special May bank holiday meal with several guests enjoying a fine dining menu including bacon wrapped cod and baked avocado. And finally, we said goodbye to a much loved member of staff, our duty manager Asher who is moving on to a new job with the council. She is being replaced by Sandra, a lovely woman who has already worked at the court for several years and is well received. |
