On Thursday 11th January all the owners at the Bowling Green threw a surprise party to help their manager, Ian, celebrate his 65th birthday. The only problem is the birthday boy isn’t in the photo as he is behind the camera! Anyway, everyone had a lovely time enjoying the buffet and a glass or two of Cava.
On Friday 15th December the Bowling Green held their annual Christmas singalong. Members of a local choir were invited along to lead us through the old Christmas favourites. This was followed by light refreshments and everyone had a lovely time and left full of Christmas spirit and good cheer.
Pat and John Fish celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary at the Bowling Green in fine style on Thursday June 8th. Every single owner attended and were treated to a glass (or two) of champagne and a lovely celebratory cake.
Everyone had a lovely time and John and Pat were thrilled to receive a congratulations card from the Queen! On February 8th the owners at the Bowling Green were invited to celebrate the 88th birthday of the oldest among them, Glenys Denton ( Glenys is the lady in the red blouse stood by the window). Glenys is a very fine cook and brought sponge cakes and eclairs of her own creation which were enjoyed by everyone.
The Bowling Green Entertained by Local Comedian.
On Thursday 1st December the owners at the Bowling Green were entertained by local comedian and raconteur Rob Mason. Very much in the mould of everyone’s favourite Peter Kay, Rob invited us to take literally instructions from our old school teachers such as “children ‘look at the blackboard while I go through it!’” The evening was rounded off when Rob led us in a singalong of old sixties favourites and Christmas carols. A wonderful evening enjoyed by all Musical Bingo at the Bowling Green On Friday 2nd December the owners at the Bowling Green took part in an evening of musical bingo. Replacing the calling of numbers, as in traditional bingo, with well known musical introductions on CD, which participants need to identify and mark where appropriate, until filling a line or full sheet. Prizes of chocolates and wine were handed out to the winners and the evening was rounded off with coffee, pastries and biscuits. Exercise Classes at the Bowling Green. Every Tuesday and Friday mornings the owners at the Bowling Green are invited to attend a half hour exercise class. Based on a Local Authority initiative entitled “Healthy Hips and Hearts” we have a professionally trained instructor who puts us through our paces! As you can see from the photo below we are all worn out but still smiling afterwards! On Thursday 8 October all the Owners at the Bowling Green were entertained by the UkuHalee Band, a group of retired musicians established through the auspices of the University of the Third Age. Playing a mixture of classic old and new folk and pop songs everyone was able to join in an extremely enjoyable singsong.
A collection was made and presented to the band leader who said that the proceeds would be donated to a charity of their choice, the local branch of the NSPCC. Afterwards everyone enjoyed a glass of wine and pastries! On Saturday 11th July the Owners’ Lounge at the Bowling Green was host to North East Producers Theatre Company www.northeastproducers.co.uk who entertained us with a wonderful production entitled “When I’m Cleaning Windows”.
The show included all the well known favourites and everyone was encouraged to join in which made for a very enjoyable evening, made even better when it was followed by a fish and chip supper. We will definitely be inviting the performers back in December to entertain us with their Christmas pantomime! |
