As you can see from the photos, the Christmas buffet was great success.
The list of upcoming events includes a monthly Sunday Lunch.
During the Winter months on Friday afternoon there is a film shown in the lounge for everyone to enjoy.

Yesterday the residents of Grange Court celebrated the annual Christmas lunch.
The Carvery was a great success and drinks were all paid for out of the Social funds. It was a shame Jean didn’t wear her Christmas jumper but lovely to see everyone dressed up and looking so festive ! Residents will be having drinks and mince pies on Christmas Eve followed by Tea and Christmas cake on Boxing Day. Cheers and Happy Christmas from Solihull. New Years Eve Party next! This year we have celebrated an 80th and two 90th Birthdays!
We have also had a couple of fun quizzes with cake and fizz (or tea/coffee if the fizz doesn’t agree with you). The owners have enjoyed a supper each month, prepared by two owners here. These include fish and chip supper, salmon salad, chicken and chips, quiche salad, with pudding and a drink. We have been out for a couple of three course meals at the local university college to test the skills of the budding chefs there. We enjoyed the first of our Christmas meals at the end of November and will be going out again for another this month. We also have a pop-up shop visiting during this month, bringing the latest fashions suitable for all. This means that those who may struggle to get out for clothing (and those who don’t) can browse and shop in the comfort of Thurman Lodge communal lounge. Three apartments have sold later this year and are due to complete shortly. One didn’t even go on the market! All three are expected to be occupied before Christmas. Owners enjoy a weekly coffee/tea morning and also a whist afternoon. With Christmas nearly upon us owners at Harroway will be enjoying a pre Christmas lunch at Da Carlo in Fetcham. Also as usual Fetcham Infant School will be performing their festive songs which will be washed down with a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie or two. New Year’s Eve will see a gathering in the lounge to welcome in 2017 with a glass of bubbles.
A regular pilates class is now taking place on a Thursday lunchtime which is well attended by owners. Our bin store has been given a lovely new roof in time to keep out the rain and snow. The Christmas trees are up and the building is looking cheerful and welcoming.
Pegasus Court and Pegasus Lodge are both having Christmas meals out plus a joint tea in the Owners’ lounge just before the Holiday break. Social events continue and are appreciated particularly at this time of year when you can get together with friends without having to go outside! This month the regular coffee mornings, afternoon teas, flexercise class and Tai Chi continue plus the new “ Knitting group” formed a few months ago. Additional events include the annual visit from the Salvation army to sing carols plus the popular wine tasting evening. All of this will see us through to the Spring when we will be able to enjoy our garden which is now crammed with bulbs of many kinds….guaranteed to be a lovely show. The Bowling Green Entertained by Local Comedian.
On Thursday 1st December the owners at the Bowling Green were entertained by local comedian and raconteur Rob Mason. Very much in the mould of everyone’s favourite Peter Kay, Rob invited us to take literally instructions from our old school teachers such as “children ‘look at the blackboard while I go through it!’” The evening was rounded off when Rob led us in a singalong of old sixties favourites and Christmas carols. A wonderful evening enjoyed by all Musical Bingo at the Bowling Green On Friday 2nd December the owners at the Bowling Green took part in an evening of musical bingo. Replacing the calling of numbers, as in traditional bingo, with well known musical introductions on CD, which participants need to identify and mark where appropriate, until filling a line or full sheet. Prizes of chocolates and wine were handed out to the winners and the evening was rounded off with coffee, pastries and biscuits. Exercise Classes at the Bowling Green. Every Tuesday and Friday mornings the owners at the Bowling Green are invited to attend a half hour exercise class. Based on a Local Authority initiative entitled “Healthy Hips and Hearts” we have a professionally trained instructor who puts us through our paces! As you can see from the photo below we are all worn out but still smiling afterwards! |
