Good news from Gresham court, everyone is keeping well at this hard time, therefore I would like to congratulate all at Gresham Court for doing their part in keeping to the social distancing rules. Owners of Gresham Court properties came out yet again last week on Thursday evening to thank our NHS and Key Workers for all their hard work during this period. We are all grateful for what they do. Join us for an Open Day at Gresham Court on Saturday 17th August between 10am - 2pm.
You will have an opportunity to view apartments and the extensive communal areas, explore our lovely gardens, experience what Court living has to offer and meet Owners and Staff. All welcome. Our annual Summer BBQ was held on July 24th on the terrace and was attended by lots of our residents and several guests as well. The food and wine were well received, and we had an great afternoon, luckily with no rain. Thanks to our cook Sami and all the staff for their help.
This summer has seen some fresh new events commence at the court as well as the return of some old favourites.
June saw the return of our Cheese and Wine evening, now being hosted by one of our Duty Manager's, Lesley, which has been long awaited as it is a firm favourite at Gresham. A fine selection of cheeses and wines from around the world are enjoyed over scintillating conversation and great company. We also hosted a Cream Tea evening which was enjoyed by several owners and is definitely an event we will be repeating while we can enjoy the warm summer evenings! Our summer Pimm’s night was also a success (you may have noticed a theme here!) with our residents enjoying sipping cocktails on the terrace together. Also, we raised our glasses for a 100th Birthday to one of our residents. Mr Ferguson turned 100 on 16th of June. Congratulations Mr Ferguson! It has been rather a long time since our last newsletter and there has been lots going on at Gresham Court since the New Year began. The court has undergone a transformation as decorating has begun in earnest, giving the halls a fresh and vibrant feel. Our owners have teamed up with management to devise a brilliant new colour scheme which really shows the personality of the Court.
We welcomed local residents to our very first Open Day, which gave us a chance to show what life could be like for them in the future and show our lovely grounds and apartments. March saw us celebrate the 99th birthday of one of our most beloved residents, Mr Frank Lumb, who enjoyed his birthday tea and cakes surrounded by friends. Easter is always a special occasion at Gresham Court and this year saw us have many special events, including hot cross buns in the lounge on Good Friday, a traditional Easter Sunday meal of roast lamb and a special meal on Easter Monday attended by friends and family of our residents. Our usual film night continues to take place every four weeks with owners enjoying a range of different films such as the classic ‘An Affair to Remember’ starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, and is always enjoyed by those attending. We had a special May bank holiday meal with several guests enjoying a fine dining menu including bacon wrapped cod and baked avocado. And finally, we said goodbye to a much loved member of staff, our duty manager Asher who is moving on to a new job with the council. She is being replaced by Sandra, a lovely woman who has already worked at the court for several years and is well received. Now we are firmly in 2019, we would like to recap on a wonderful Christmas period here at Gresham Court. There were an abundance of festive activities including a mulled wine evening where owners gathered in the lounge to relax, enjoy nibbles and play card games together. Owners then gathered again for the annual Christmas Lunch, which saw the dining room packed to the rafters and our chefs pulling out all the stops to serve a delicious meal enjoyed by all. We managed to sneak in a cheese and wine evening before our Christmas Day celebrations, where we served drinks in the lounge from 10.30am and enjoyed a lovely tradition meal in the afternoon. Boxing Day saw residents and their guests come together to enjoy a traditional meal and toast the year gone by.
On New Year’s Eve some of our owners came together to enjoy canapés and wine in the lounge, and New Year's Day saw another packed dining room as owners and their guests tucked into succulent lamb shanks and toasted to the year to come. We look forward to bringing news of new events to come in 2019! It has been a busy few weeks at Gresham Court, with a flurry of events to keep our owners entertained. Our monthly film night was enjoyed by many owners; they watched the riveting film ‘The 39 Steps’ starring Rupert Penry-Jones and Lydia Leonard, which shines a light on life in the 1910’s.
Our cheese and wine evening was a great success with owners enjoying a mixture of classic and exotic wines with some classic French and English cheeses. A Christmas sale was held by two of our owners, who displayed a large variety of toys, jewellery and household items for very reasonable prices. The raffle for a bottle of Moet champagne helped to push the proceeds up to £200, all of which was donated to a local children’s charity, The Osteopathic Centre for Children, a charity close to our hearts here at Gresham Court. And finally, a group of our owners had the great pleasure of attending the Russian National Ballets production of Swan Lake at the Epsom playhouse. The group enjoyed a drink at the bar before sitting in the cosy playhouse to enjoy a ballet with rave reviews, listen to the music of Tchaikovsky and enjoy the romance of the performance. We are looking forward to planning another trip to the theatre soon! Gresham Court celebrated Guy Fawkes night with a lovely firework display on 5th November. Owners enjoyed the show and our traditional meal of bangers and mash to keep them warm on the chilly evening.
Gresham Court has been vibrant with activity this autumn with lots of social events for residents and some new additions to the garden. The warm weather has seen our summer flowers continue to bloom zealously into October, making the grounds look lovely and inviting. We will be planting tulips, crocuses and grape hyacinths once the space becomes available!
Our residents enjoyed another successful Cheese and Wine evening at the Court, with the stilton and cranberry variety a particular hit. We also enjoyed another film night together with residents held in suspense watching the film production of An Inspector Calls. An evening of Music was provided by Mr Martin, our resident melophile, who took participants on a journey through the decades of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. We also enjoyed another music event, with pianist Ian Stuart performing some of the classic songs of the last century at the court, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. We will be happy to see Ian return to the court in the future. This summer has seen some fresh new events commence at the court as well as the return of some old favourites...

Some of our residents opted to watch the Wimbledon men’s and women’s finals together in the lounge where the atmosphere was tense at times! And finally our annual Summer BBQ was held on July 31st on the terrace and was attended by lots of our residents and several guests as well. The food and wine were well received and we had an great afternoon, luckily with no rain! It has been a busy couple of months at Gresham Court! We celebrated St Georges Day in April with delicious homemade Fish and Chips and an exhilarating Bingo evening that saw many lovely prizes presented. This was followed by our May Day Bank holiday meal with an exciting new menu this year including baked Avocado and stilton and Cod wrapped in Smoked Bacon which the owners particularly enjoyed. Last but not least we raised a toast to the lovely couple at our Royal Wedding celebrations in the lounge! Such a spectacular event was followed up with a glass of bubbly with lunch. We are looking forward to a lovely summer ahead with lots of activities planned.
Gresham Court has seen a busy start to the year with many events punctuating the social calendar. We enjoyed celebrating the birthdays of two of our owners, Mr Diederich (aged 88) and Mr Lumb (the venerable age of 98!). We have also welcomed back Film Night to the social calendar so residents will now enjoy a film together once a month in the lounge on a Saturday evening. Last but not least we celebrated Easter in fine fashion this year with hot cross buns and tea served on Good Friday and special Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday meals served to our residents and many of their family members. A lovely few days enjoyed by all.
The festive season was celebrated in earnest this year at Gresham Court with residents enjoying a delicious Christmas meal which came together beautifully with the help of veteran Chef Sean and fresh to the fold Karl. This was followed by lovely meals on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, with residents being able to invite guests to share in the festivities. We also started 2018 in traditional style with an evening of canapés and sparkling wine on New Year’s Eve followed by an amazing and very busy New Years Day where we entertained many guests and family members. We all thoroughly enjoyed this Christmas and are looking forward to more activities and trips together in the coming year.
