Eastbank Court has now been open for nearly four years and is 75% occupied.  Our Owners enjoy regular activities and events, along with key events depending on the month.

December will enjoy Bell ringing with a local choir, sing-a-long with music, mulled wine and mince pies.  An Owners' Christmas lunch spread over two days is now fully booked and an increased number has booked for Christmas Day lunch.  A raffle has been organised by an Owner with 50% of the proceeds to be donated to St Richards Hospice.  New Year's Eve buffet and bubbles will be well supported.

Our restaurant and licenced bar are very well supported on a daily basis with several varied menu choices catering for all dietary needs.

We are having a 10th Year Anniversary tea on 2nd December  which coincides with the completion of our redecoration and new LED lights.

We have a list of activities during December.  These include a visit from our local Brownies, Owners' Christmas lunches, bell ringing and one of our Duty Managers will be signing for our Owners.

We will be holding another cocktail evening as our last one was a great success, and Jane our Chef has some excellent ideas.

Our Owners have had a festive outing from the Court to Haskins Garden Centre and Hobbycraft.  It gave them the opportunity to look at some beautiful Christmas trees and decorations and to start their Christmas shopping. 

December at the Court brings lots of Christmas festivities for Owners to enjoy.  On Wednesday 16th December Spotlight School of Dance will be performing their Christmas Show from 3 to 16 years of age, they will deliver a "Christmas Cracker" dance show and all Owners are welcome.

Pre-Christmas lunch for our Owners is on Thursday 10th December.  A festive feast served with wine, visitors are welcome too.

Our Owners' Christmas party is on Saturday 19th December.  Pole Trail will be with us again wooing us on to the dance floor!  A fun night with laughter, M&S Buffet food and wine.

We held a coffee morning for MacMillan which raised £400.  Our Owners enjoyed a very successful fancy dress party for Halloween.  We look forward to our Christmas party on 16th December.

Redecoration is underway on the upper floors and new LED lighting has been installed.

We all enjoyed the beautiful weather in our garden which is a blaze with autumnal colours.  The gardening quiz was a huge success with a delightful talk from our gardener.  Our Owners also enjoyed dancing in the aisle at the last entertainment show. 

The last two Birthday celebrations organised in our lounge were a good introduction to the next event, a celebration of our 10th Year Anniversary and the completion of the redecorations.

We held our Bonfire Buffet on November 5th and it was well attended and enjoyed by all.  A raffle was held to enable us to buy a Maple Tree.  There are numerous Christmas events planned to include handbell ringing, evening Christmas meal, "make something for Christmas" and a "Bring and Buy Sale".  One of our Owners will be holding his ever popular "music afternoon" with a Christmas theme.

The Court is looking very clean and bright as the external metal work has just been cleaned and painted.

As Christmas is now only weeks away, we are planning a busy social programme at the Court including a pre-Christmas lunch for Owners and their guests in Mid-December, some seasonal music , special lunches and other social events over the Christmas and New Year period.

Apartment resales have been going well in recent months with only three now remaining.  The new owners have joined the community and settled in well.

A fantastic amount of £484 was raised during the MacMillian  coffee morning.  The annual Halloween Dinner was well attended and enjoyed by all.  Christmas events are being planned with two pre-Christmas lunches and one Dinner, two Choirs are coming to entertain us. 

A brand new local Sainsbury's is nearly ready to open nearby Alston Court.

The final decision regarding the new wallpapers and carpet in the lounge, dining room, hobbies room and ground floor corridor will be made shortly.  The work will commence in Spring 2016, so watch this space!

Over the coming months we have an afternoon tea, quiz nights and buffets with evening entertainment.  We also have the lighting of the Christmas tree celebration and a Christmas party.  Hopefully the Children from a local School will be visiting to sing Christmas carols.

Mr Peter Corliss, who celebrated his 90th Birthday in April, has been awarded with the Legion d'honneur medal for the part he played in the D-Day Landings on 6th June 1944.

Peter was 19 at the time when he reached the beaches in a landing craft, as they prepared to disembark the craft became stranded on a stake planted on the shoreline.  The stake had a mine attached to it, luckily it did not go off.  The captain ordered the men off the boat as it was laden with 4000 gallons of fuel, this meant they had to take refuge in a crater on the beach overnight and were only able to escape the following morning.

Peter was told last year by the Ministry of Defence that the French were in discussions with the British government about honouring the British Soldiers who fought in the D-Day Landings but he did not hear anymore until October this year.  Peter received a package in the post from the French Ambassador containing the Legion d'honnuer medal and a personal letter.

This medal is the highest honour in France, originally established by Napoleon in the 19th Century.  He has also been awarded the rank of Chevalier which is the highest rank available in the French military.

Everyone at Harroway Manor is extremely proud of him and delighted he has been rewarded in this way. 

Over the past month Owners have had a good social calendar with usual coffee mornings and whist afternoons.  Owners have also enjoyed a quiche supper, a quiz afternoon and a film night.

Harroway Manor was granted planning permission for a new car park space and the work has recently been completed.  All the Owners are delighted with the result.

A trip was planned by Surrey Theatre Goers to see Beautiful at The Aldwich Theatre which many Owners attended and enjoyed.  We had an extremely successful MacMillan coffee morning which received fantastic support and generosity and raised over £400!  There has also been two 90th Birthdays where celebrations were held in the lounge and attended by many Owners, friends and family.

Haven Court gained a second prize for their entry into the Seaton in Bloom 'Communal Residential category this year.

Owners held a Macmillan coffee morning with a raffle and auction.  They raised a terrific £275 for the cause.

On Thursday 8 October all the Owners at the Bowling Green were entertained by the UkuHalee Band, a group of retired musicians established through the auspices of the University of the Third Age.  Playing a mixture of classic old and new folk and pop songs everyone was able to join in an extremely enjoyable singsong.

A collection was made and presented to the band leader who said that the proceeds would be donated to a charity of their choice, the local branch of the NSPCC.

Afterwards everyone enjoyed a glass of wine and pastries!

The external decoration has now been completed which has left both buildings looking clean and fresh.  We held a Macmillan coffee morning on Friday 25 September which is always well supported by our Owners and raised a total of £380.  This was due to selling tickets for a tombola stand, count the spots on a cake competition and the auction of a homemade cake donated by one of our Owners.  Also, our social committee now organise afternoon films in the lounge on a monthly basis.  We are now in the process of organising our Christmas lunch, sherry & mince pies and the local primary school choir to come and sing Christmas carols.
