Tea and scones with cream were served which topped the afternoon! We thank Sandra for her visit and look forward to her return with another talk!
We had an afternoon talk with Sandra from the Russell Cotes Museum which is situated here in Bournemouth just a stone throw away from Brompton Court. Sandra, using power point and our projector system in the Hobbies Room, gave an insight to the fascinating history and background of the Victorian Villa called East Cliff Hall which was the home of Merton (1835-1921) and Annie Russell-Cotes (1835-1920). The building of East Cliff Hall was begun in 1897 and was completed in its first form in 1901. The house was designed by the architect, John Frederick Fogerty, but Merton and Annie had a great deal of input into the design. It was designed so that Merton and Annie could live in style and comfort and to house their growing collections. The house was to be a showcase, not simply for their own enjoyment, but also for the people of Bournemouth to whom it was given. On 15 July 1901, Merton presented East Cliff Hall to his wife as a gift on her 66th birthday. This was the same year that Queen Victoria died, making the house one of the last Victorian buildings ever built.
Tea and scones with cream were served which topped the afternoon! We thank Sandra for her visit and look forward to her return with another talk!

It has been a very busy April here at Brompton Court! Laura our Court Manager, who is currently on maternity leave, returned with her bundle of joy to join us for tea and cake and lots of cuddles! Welcome Harrison Jake! Anna, our housekeeper, joined us too with her baby boy Nasim.
Join us for an Open Day at Queen Anne Court on Thursday 2nd May, 11am - 3pm.
You will have an opportunity to view apartments and the extensive communal areas, explore our lovely gardens, experience what Court living has to offer and meet Owners and Staff. All welcome. Tuesday April 2nd, saw the return of Brompton Courts ever popular Quiz night under the ever-watchful eye of ace quizmasters Carl Milner (Court Manager), ably assisted by new duty manager Mr. Donald Halliday.
In all 36 people attended and all reported how much fun it had been but a few of the ladies did optimistically comment that perhaps a few less sports questions may well would have seen them ‘romp to victory’. The winning team - ‘Grahams Gang’, captained most ably by Mr. Graham Harrison, won by a whisker and each member of the team received a bottle of wine; mercifully there were no reports of drunkenness or rowdy behaviour! Several of the owners brought chocolates and other epicurean delights with which to share around. The whole evening was a great success with repeated calls for “we must do this again – and soon!” echoing throughout Brompton Court. Watch this space for further developments! Unique one-off bonnets were made by the owners at Holmesdale this year for Easter. Thank you to Kathleen, Valerie and Maggie for organising the fun.
'War Night', recently held at Browning Court, included Keyboard playing, singing and poetry from the 1st and 2nd World War, read by Owners and Staff. Refreshments were provided and a good time was had by all .
We had a very successful Mother's Day lunch at Brompton Court, followed by live entertainment from the very talented Barbara Garsior who was excellent on the Violin playing all the Classical Hits of yester year.
