We were so excited to welcome back Rachel More who had us rocking all around the Christmas tree with a sprinkling of Christmas classics, party songs from across the decades, and hit tunes from artists such as Abba, Diana Ross and many more. We enjoyed 'La Bamba', a little ‘Da Doo Ron Ron’, 'Waterloo' and ‘Dancing Queen'. Our Chef Fernanda prepared an amazing hot and cold Christmas themed buffet for all whilst the team, Suzie, Nicola and Ashley, waited on our owners every needs ensuring glasses were full and all joined in with the dancing. It was a night to remember and perfect for getting everyone in the Christmas spirit at Brompton Court!

Brompton Court really got into that Christmas spirit with a lovely evening of mulled wine, mince pies and the beautiful harmonies of Bournemouth Community Voice Choir. What a lovely setting in our Great Hall with twinkling Christmas lights and impressive Christmas tree to enjoy this festive evening. The evening raised a generous payment to Forest Holmes Hospice, arranged by our lovely Vicky through a wonderful raffle with great prizes. Thank you to Vicky and all the staff.
We had our first Christmas event of the year hosted by the St George’s Choir which three of our Owners are part of. They have set the tone perfectly for the run up to Christmas here at Brompton Court. We all enjoyed their set and then with our song books joined in with a number of popular carols. Of course there was mulled wine and mince pies for all thanks to Carole, Daniel and Laura. This is not the first time for the St George’s Choir, they never disappoint when they visit and put on a beautiful show. Merry Christmas!
Owners enjoyed an exciting evening at Brompton Court with a selection of gins and canapés. The event was hosted by Paul Walker, a local entertainer, who not only has the most amazing swing voice but can throw out a few dance moves too! The night was organised by our Duty Manager Suzie with the help of Carole and what an evening they produced. Drinks, food and dancing... who could ask for more. Thank you Paul for a night to remember!
Yet another hugely successful event that has raised over £1,000 for this very worthy cause. Our Great Hall was filled with Owners and guests, the coffee was flowing and there was an abundance of home-made cakes, jams, chutneys, toiletries & lots of wonderful items for purchase; plus a marvellous raffle to boot!
Lena Hack, a long-term Owner here at Brompton, has been the Macmillan ‘Champion’ for a number of years and we thank her for all her efforts. We know she will be delighted with the success of this annual event. Huge thanks also go to Mrs Shieldhouse for her support, our ‘Star Baker’, each and every cake absolutely delicious! Suzie and the team did a wonderful job, as always, in bringing everything together and organising this fantastic annual coffee morning. The Court had been very much looking forward to receiving a local singer, a lady who has enjoyed considerable success during her career. The mood of the day, however, had changed progressively as the Nation was waiting anxiously to hear about HRH Queen Elizabeth II, as her health had been declining over the last few hours.
It was just as Rachel More was about to begin her repertoire, at 6.30pm, when the announcement came from Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty had passed away. In a moment of reflection, we paid our respects to our late, Great Queen, giving thanks for her wonderful 70 years of Reign and it was decided that we would celebrate her life, her legacy, by going ahead with the evening. We were so glad to have made that decision. Rachel sang most beautifully, it was a pleasure just to sit back and listen to her voice. The choice of songs that she made was perfect, considering the very poignant time that we were experiencing. The Owners were able to contemplate what our Nation was about to experience and witness, the historical end of an era, taking stock of the many memories that they had of Her Majesty. The tone of the evening was kept most respectful and many felt grateful to enjoy the musicality of Rachel’s voice… soothing and pitch perfect. We thank Rachel for making the evening memorable. With thanks to Suzie and Nicola for ensuring that the evening went as well as could be expected. The Staff at Brompton wish to take this opportunity to convey our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family. May HRH Queen Elizabeth II now Rest in Peace.
Oh what a night at Brompton Court! Laughter, smiles, giggles, we lost count how many rounds of Bingo and, to top it off, Chez Fred Fish & Chips!!
This couldn’t have gone any better. Bingo is always so much fun but with our guest host callers, the lovely couple that are Kelly and Eddy, they had our Owners in absolute stitches. The fish & chips were delicious too, delivered hot and freshly cooked from our well-known “chippy” that’s won many awards over the years. The combination of good food, good entertainment and a generous number of prizes for being the first to call “Bingo”, it’s not surprising that there were smiles coming from all around the room! Our thanks to Suzie, Kelly and Eddy and all the Team for all the preparation and fun that they created on the night. The Owners can’t wait for “Bingo Night Part II”… it’s going to be a good’un! With such lovely temperatures being enjoyed by everyone at the moment, we thought it would be a nice idea for our Owners to be able to serve themselves a nice cuppa whilst outside in our patio area.
The gardens are such a beautiful space for the Owners to have a chat, play a game or two of cards, read a book, or just sit and relax… so the new Coffee Station has been a very welcomed addition to the Court, with much approval by all. We've had a string of great birthday celebrations so far this year and this was one not to be missed! The Great Hall was decorated beautifully and filled to burst, so many Owners came to celebrate this auspicious birthday with John. A glass of bubbles on arrival with wine flowing from start to end, this party was going to get everyone tapping their feet and dancing the night away!
A gorgeous selection of cheese & biscuits was prepared by Suzie and her side-kick Nick, and a beautiful birthday cake was delivered by John’s son… the food was lovely. Entertainment was provided by John’s old-time friend Clive, who played a wonderful selection of tunes on our grand piano and the Otis Bay Blues Band who coupled up to ensure that every moment was filled with beautiful music, a huge passion that John holds. The celebration continued long into the night and our thanks go to Suzie, Nick, Laura and Stacey who ensured that the evening was such a resounding success. Brompton holds a Pilates class weekly for owners to enjoy. Thank you to our teacher Katie who does a fantastic job!
"I am very proud of my keen participants because they do their best to take part in every session even though they have their busy life schedule. They work hard and It is such a pleasure to teach this class. I love helping them to improve their well-being. Thank you very much for your support and giving me your big smile at the end of our lesson." After 17 years of dedicated service, one of our Duty Managers, Lynne Courtney-Smith has decided it's time to spend more time with her family! With lots of grandchildren and an elderly mother, she's looking forward to creating memories with her nearest and dearest and everyone here at Brompton wishes to bid her 'farewell'. Many of our Owners & Staff gathered to express their gratitude and she was presented with a number of beautiful gifts. Lynne very kindly gifted the Court with a beautiful 'Wind Spinner', that has pride of place in the garden.
Everyone here wishes all the best in her Retirement. Please don't be a stranger and pop in to see us from time to time! |
