Gresham Court has been vibrant with activity this autumn with lots of social events for residents and some new additions to the garden. The warm weather has seen our summer flowers continue to bloom zealously into October, making the grounds look lovely and inviting. We will be planting tulips, crocuses and grape hyacinths once the space becomes available!
Our residents enjoyed another successful Cheese and Wine evening at the Court, with the stilton and cranberry variety a particular hit. We also enjoyed another film night together with residents held in suspense watching the film production of An Inspector Calls. An evening of Music was provided by Mr Martin, our resident melophile, who took participants on a journey through the decades of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. We also enjoyed another music event, with pianist Ian Stuart performing some of the classic songs of the last century at the court, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. We will be happy to see Ian return to the court in the future. This summer has seen some fresh new events commence at the court as well as the return of some old favourites...
June saw the return of our Cheese and Wine evening, now being hosted by one of our Duty Managers, which has been long awaited as it is a firm favourite at Gresham. A fine selection of cheeses and wines from around the world are enjoyed over scintillating conversation and great company. We also hosted a tennis-inspired Strawberries and Fizz evening which was enjoyed by several owners and is definitely an event we will be repeating while we can enjoy the warm summer evenings! Our summer Pimm’s night was also a success (you may have noticed a theme here!) with our residents enjoying sipping cocktails on the terrace together. Some of our residents opted to watch the Wimbledon men’s and women’s finals together in the lounge where the atmosphere was tense at times! And finally our annual Summer BBQ was held on July 31st on the terrace and was attended by lots of our residents and several guests as well. The food and wine were well received and we had an great afternoon, luckily with no rain! It has been a busy couple of months at Gresham Court! We celebrated St Georges Day in April with delicious homemade Fish and Chips and an exhilarating Bingo evening that saw many lovely prizes presented. This was followed by our May Day Bank holiday meal with an exciting new menu this year including baked Avocado and stilton and Cod wrapped in Smoked Bacon which the owners particularly enjoyed. Last but not least we raised a toast to the lovely couple at our Royal Wedding celebrations in the lounge! Such a spectacular event was followed up with a glass of bubbly with lunch. We are looking forward to a lovely summer ahead with lots of activities planned.
Gresham Court has seen a busy start to the year with many events punctuating the social calendar. We enjoyed celebrating the birthdays of two of our owners, Mr Diederich (aged 88) and Mr Lumb (the venerable age of 98!). We have also welcomed back Film Night to the social calendar so residents will now enjoy a film together once a month in the lounge on a Saturday evening. Last but not least we celebrated Easter in fine fashion this year with hot cross buns and tea served on Good Friday and special Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday meals served to our residents and many of their family members. A lovely few days enjoyed by all.
The festive season was celebrated in earnest this year at Gresham Court with residents enjoying a delicious Christmas meal which came together beautifully with the help of veteran Chef Sean and fresh to the fold Karl. This was followed by lovely meals on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, with residents being able to invite guests to share in the festivities. We also started 2018 in traditional style with an evening of canapés and sparkling wine on New Year’s Eve followed by an amazing and very busy New Years Day where we entertained many guests and family members. We all thoroughly enjoyed this Christmas and are looking forward to more activities and trips together in the coming year.
Owners enjoyed a Christmas Quiz afternoon with a glass of mulled wine and nibbles. The winning team were very pleased with their prize of wine and chocolates.
Our fireworks went off with a bang as we celebrated another Bonfire Night at Gresham Court on Monday 6th November. Owners and their guests started the evening with a traditional meal of bangers and mash, an old favourite, enjoyed by everyone. This was followed by a brilliant firework display in the cool air of the garden. A memorable evening enjoyed by all who attended.
The owners and staff all went pink on Friday 20th October and raised £123.90 for Breast Cancer Research.
In August we had very successful and sunny BBQ lunch which was supported by many owners. A lovely High Tea afternoon in September was very much enjoyed by those who attended.
Our regular social events continue including Cheese and Wine evenings and the music hour. New Owners have been welcomed and are happily settled in at Gresham Court enjoying their new home. We have one bedroom apartment on the market at the moment.
Since our Christmas celebrations, owners have organised music afternoons and are also enjoying hosting regular coffee mornings and tea and cake evenings. We had very enjoyable High Tea evening. Cheese and wine evening has been organised by Mr Mason and been enjoyed by owners, as much as the music hour which has been organised by Mr Martin. We celebrated Mr Wards 80th Birthday on 8th May. Following such a dismal spell of weather over the last few month, and now we are well in to the New Year, our thoughts are turning once again to making improvements in the garden. Our owners have a few very keen gardeners amongst them and are meeting regularly to come up with a plan for replanting particular areas in the garden which are enjoyed by everyone.
As Christmas is now only weeks away, we are planning a busy social programme at the Court including a pre-Christmas lunch for Owners and their guests in Mid-December, some seasonal music , special lunches and other social events over the Christmas and New Year period.
An excellent BBQ was held in August and thankfully we escaped the showers. A very well supported event enjoyed by Owners and their guests.
Summer is swiftly passing by and we are now preparing for Autumn. Busy times at the Court continue, welcoming new Owners who are settling in and quickly making new friends. Social events include armchair keep fit, musical afternoons, afternoon teas and coffee mornings which are informal and relaxed. In addition our wonderful two chefs continue to provide our Owners with delicious lunches. A special lunch is planned for the August Bank Holiday which hopefully will be a sunny day. |
